June 1, 2026. ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA) announced new findings from an independent nutrition analysis conducted in partnership with Edacious, providing a detailed look at the nutritional quality and safety of wild Bristol Bay sockeye salmon.
To ensure the findings reflected the unique characteristics of Bristol Bay sockeye salmon, all samples submitted for analysis were sourced exclusively from Bristol Bay and underwent a structured, third-party evaluation of nutritional properties.
Independent laboratory analysis demonstrated that Bristol Bay sockeye salmon is an outstanding source of essential nutrients, delivering excellent levels of riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxal (B6), vitamin D, phosphorus, and selenium, as well as good levels of thiamin (B1). Equally notable, Edacious found no detectable microplastics in any Bristol Bay sockeye salmon samples analyzed, highlighting the purity of this wild, sustainably harvested fish.
A single 113-gram serving of Bristol Bay sockeye salmon contains:
- 23 grams of protein
- 32.7 mcg of vitamin D, equal to 163% of the USDA recommended daily value
- 31 mcg of selenium, equal to 56% of the USDA recommended daily value
“Bristol Bay sockeye salmon is a true product of place, shaped by one of the most pristine ecosystems on Earth and the watershed that sustains the world’s largest wild sockeye salmon run,” said Lilani Dunn. “These findings validate what Bristol Bay fishermen have known for generations: this salmon is exceptional in every sense. From its remarkable nutritional profile to its purity, flavor, and quality, Bristol Bay sockeye delivers an experience consumers can see, taste, and trust. It is nature’s perfect protein.”
The analysis also compared Bristol Bay sockeye salmon to USDA reference data for farmed Atlantic salmon. On average, Bristol Bay sockeye salmon contained:
- 58% less polyunsaturated fat
- 40% more eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 fatty acid associated with cardiovascular and cognitive health support and reduced inflammation
- 2.6 times more vitamin D, and
- 4.3 times more calcium than farmed Atlantic salmon.
